Chiller Plant with All-Variable-Speed Loop Control Technology Assessment
Join us as Jeremy Blanchard, C.E.M, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, (PNNL), presents on the results of a study of Chiller Plants using All-Variable Speed Loop Control Technology.
A measured demonstration of a chiller plant using all-variable-speed loop control technology was performed at a 29-story U.S. Courthouse in St. Louis, MO in support of the U.S. General Services Administration’s Green Proving Ground program. The chiller plant was retrofitted from a constant-speed chiller plant to a variable-speed chiller plant with variable-frequency drives installed on the chillers, chilled-water and condenser-water pumps and cooling tower fans. The control technology utilized the variable-frequency drives to minimize the total power of the chilled water plant, including the chillers, pumps and cooling tower fans. The result achieved a 40% reduction in annual chiller plant energy use.
