Energy Efficiency as a Locational Resource

Learn how Energy Trust of Oregon and Pacific Power are deploying Energy Efficiency as a strategy for reducing peak demand in capacity constrained regions. Our speakers will present the results of their Targeted Load Management (TLM) project in the North Santiam Valley and provide an overview of the next phase of the TLM project currently underway in Southern Oregon.

Guest Speakers:

Quinn Cherf

Quinn Cherf is a senior project manager at Energy Trust of Oregon, where she leads cross-functional teams focused on identifying new strategies to reduce peak demand in geographically targeted areas. Currently she is responsible for managing and implementing two complex and innovative location and community-targeted energy efficiency and renewable energy pilot projects. Working collaboratively with Energy Trust utility partners, the projects aim to reduce peak load capacity constraints by using targeted energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions.

Prior to joining Energy Trust, Quinn worked in the United States Antarctic Program, deploying to McMurdo Station to manage the hazardous waste department and spill response teams. She has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota and is PMP certified.

Angela Long

Angela Long is a Planning Manager for PacifiCorp’s Customer Solutions teams. Angela is responsible for demand-side management (DSM) and distributed energy resource (DER) program planning, design and valuation. In her role, she supports multiple internal departments and serves externally as a company liaison and subject matter expert to organizations such as state commissions, DSM and DER stakeholders, Northwest Power and Conservation Council (NWPCC), Regional Technical Forum (RTF), Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (NEEA), Energy Trust of Oregon (ETO), and National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). Angela has over 10 years of experience in energy conservation for the public and private sector and holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science with a specialization in energy efficiency and renewable energy from Ohio State University.

Tickets Now On Sale for 2019 CEM Training

The Association of Energy Engineers Columbia River Chapter (AEE-CRC) will host a comprehensive five-day Training Program for Energy Managers in Portland October 28th – November 1st, 2019. Attendees will be eligible and equipped to take the certification exam proctored on the final day of training. Graduates of the program will receive the increasingly recognized and requested Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification.

The special five-day seminar provides an in-depth, comprehensive learning and problem-solving forum for those who want a broader understanding of the latest energy cost reduction strategies. The program begins by examining the fundamentals within all key areas of energy management. Students then learn, system by system, how to diagnose and analyze energy savings opportunities.

Course includes tuition, textbook (Guide to Energy Management Handbook), CEM workbook, application and exam fee ($400), one year of AEE membership, local chapter membership, and daily light breakfast and full lunch.

March 2019 EEF – Ultra High-Efficiency Ventilation For High Performance Buildings

As building designs continue to pursue greater user comfort coupled with efficient HVAC systems, ventilation becomes an increasingly vital part of the solution. Delivering fresh air via Dedicated Outdoor Air Systems with Heat Recovery Ventilators is becoming more common practice, however the cost of de-coupling ventilation air from conditioned air often holds back better building designs.

To demonstrate the economic benefit of de-coupled systems, we will explore the building types and situations where a DOAS/HRV system makes the most sense, how to zone indoor spaces most cost-effectively, and what target CFM/ton can be pursued to keep the payback of these systems within an acceptable range to keep them from becoming value-engineered out of a design.

Bridging the Gap: Commercial Real Estate and Energy Efficiency

 

Panellists:

Wade Lange, CPM, RPA, FMA

Vice President, Regional Manager, Portland, American Assets Trust

Mr. Lange serves as Vice President and Regional Manager for the Portland area, overseeing operations and development for approximately 1.3 million square feet of office, residential and retail property.  Prior to joining American Assets Trust in February of 2013, Mr. Lange served as Vice President of Property Management for Langley Investment Properties and Ashforth Pacific, from 1997 to 2013, with primary responsibility for the Lloyd properties now owned by American Assets Trust.  Mr. Lange also worked for the Oregon State Legislature as the Facilities Manager for the State Capitol and as the Maintenance Manager for US Bancorp’s corporate headquarters in Portland, Oregon.  Mr. Lange is a native of Portland and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Social Science from Portland State University and serves on the boards of BOMA Oregon, Oregon Smart Growth, Go Lloyd, Portland Street Car, Lloyd Enhanced Service District, Lloyd EcoDistrict and the Holliday Park Partnership.

 

Emily Pearce, CEM, MBA

Vice President, Waypoint Energy

Emily Pearce has 20 years of business experience with over a decade of that in the energy efficiency industry. She has lead strategic initiatives for many utility programs including developing and designing innovative energy efficiency and market transformation programs, introducing new technology to the marketplace, and implementing and improving national energy efficiency programs. Her responsibility has included managing over $100M budgets over the past decade. Ms. Pearce has lead major business development efforts across the U.S. with specific experience in commercial utility markets, the built environment and the commercial real estate market with expansive relationships throughout these sectors. As Vice President at Waypoint, Emily runs the energy services side of business which spans across the U.S. Emily has a B.S. in Fisheries and Wildlife from Michigan State University, and an M.B.A in Finance and Organizational Behavior from Marylhurst University. She is also a Certified Energy Manager. Emily is the Chair of the Green Building Interest Group (GBIG) – a sub-committee of the Cascadia Portland Collaborative of the US Green Building Council (USGBC) and on the Board of the AEE Columbia Chapter.

 

Melynda Retallack, Ink:built

Melynda is a Principal and owner at Ink:built Architecture, a woman owned architecture and development company. She views each project Ink Built takes on as an opportunity to demonstrate how buildings can have a restorative effect on our environment and even start to alleviate issues of affordability and equity in housing. After graduating from high school here in Portland, Mel earned a Bachelor of Architecture with a minor in Environmental Studies at the University of Oregon and then moved to San Francisco to develop affordable housing and complete school renovations around the Bay Area. She is a licensed architect in Oregon and Washington and a LEED AP BD&C with over 20 years of experience in architecture and real estate development. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for Camp Fire Columbia- a youth services organization and is a past chair and is still active with the Green Building Interest Group (GBIG) – a sub-committee of the Cascadia Portland Collaborative of the US Green Building Council (USGBC) and International Living Futures Institute (ILFI). Mel spends her free time backpacking and paddling in the northwest and tending her urban garden.
